Back 11 March 2014Excitement builds in anticipation of first gay marriages As our previous blogs have outlined, there have been many highs and lows in respect of the legalisation of gay marriage, with the excitement of a date being set for the first marriages and the disappointment of those couples in a civil partnership who are not yet able to convert their civil partnership into a marriage. The latest development, as reported in the Independent, is that Stephen Fry will narrate “Our Gay Wedding: The Musical”, which will follow one couple as they become the first to marry under the new provisions of the Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Act. The musical will be written by the couple themselves and will also acknowledge the struggle for gay rights. The first same-sex weddings in England and Wales will be able to take place from 29 March 2014 and couples wishing to be among the first to marry will need to give formal notice of their intention to do so by 13 March. James Maguire & Co can advise couples on the legal consequences of becoming engaged and of entering into a marriage.
