Back 6 February 2019Business Lounge 2019 Business Lounge – January 2019 On Thursday 31 January 2019, Maguire Family Law celebrated their third successful Business Lounge event which took place at Laithwaite’s Wine’s northern flagship store in Alderley Edge. The event was co-hosted by Annabel Hannam, the founder of Intro North West who are a matchmaking and personal introduction agency, to host this great event. The Business Lounge was founded in 2018 by Kirsten Tomlinson, an associate solicitor at Maguire Family law, together with Annabel Hannam. It was set up as part of a new networking group which welcomes like-minded professionals based in Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and surrounding areas. Attendees have the opportunity to meet and get to know each other in a relaxed and informal environment. The ever growing success of the event has enabled it to take place three times per year. We were fortunate to host the first event of 2019 in the function room and bar at Laithwaite’s Wine. At every Business Lounge, we nominate a “business spotlight” which gives someone from any business an opportunity to talk about briefly about who they are and what they do. On this occasion, the spotlight was focussed on Tom Ottley from Laithwaite’s who taught us about the history of Laithwaite’s Wine, its new Alderley Edge store and the various types of wine on offer. Those lucky few who had opted-out of “Dry January” even got to sample some! There were also delicious canapés provided by The Styal Kitchen’s very own Fiona Murray, a contestant on MasterChef 2017. As well as bringing together business contacts and building personal connections, the Business Lounge also supports local charities, not only through the generous donations of attendees but also by increasing their contacts and recognition in the area. On this occasion, we welcomed Dee Drake from The Toy Appeal, who are a Knutsford based charity providing Christmas toys and gifts to underprivileged children in Manchester and Cheshire. Dee explained how she came to found The Toy Appeal and talked about the wonderful work she carries out with her husband and their volunteers. The ‘Business Card Raffle’ featured again in January’s Business Lounge, where attendees put forward a donation to The Toy Appeal together with their business card in the hope that their card might be drawn out of a pot and they could win one of the fabulous prizes on offer. Due to the popularity of the Business Lounge, we have already released the date for our next event which falls on Thursday 2 May 2019. The location is yet to be confirmed but please keep in touch as further details are released and, of course, save the date! It was fantastic to see so many new and familiar faces and we hope to welcome you at our next event. Kirsten will be handing over the reins temporarily to Rebecca Ranson, a solicitor at Maguire Family Law. Rebecca will organise the event with the continuing help of Annabel Hannam.
