Back 6 January 2014Solicitor Jennifer Curtis takes on £1 a day challenge During the week commencing 6 January 2014, Jennifer Curtis, family law solicitor, will be taking part in a challenge to live on £1 a day for food and drink for a week. The challenge is part of a national campaign by Junior Chamber International UK (JCI UK) to raise money and awareness of poverty for charity. This is based on one of the UN Millennium Goals (to be reached by 2015), to eradicate extreme poverty & hunger. Hunger is the world’s number 1 health risk, killing more people a year than Aids, Malaria and Tuberculosis combined. Last year, JCI UK raised over £1,750 (including Gift Aid) for Save the Children. A further donation of £150 was made to Nothing but Nets, a charity dedicated to eradicating malaria in Africa. The overall target this year is to raise £2,500. There is also an option for supporters of the event. People who are not fully taking part are asked to sacrifice one thing that week, such as a bottle of wine, and donate what it would have cost.
