Back 8 July 2013Same sex marriage bill published by Scottish Government The Scottish Government has introduced the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Bill to the Scottish parliament. The bill requires religious bodies to opt into the legislation if they wish to offer same sex marriages. The family law areas covered by the bill for same sex couples are: The introduction of same sex marriage; Putting belief celebrants on the same footing as religious celebrants; Civil partnerships changing to marriage; Allowing the religious and belief registration of civil partnerships; Allowing transgender persons to stay married and obtaining the full Gender Recognition Certificate.
