Child Friendly Halloween

Whether you are co-parenting or single parenting let’s aim for a child friendly halloween.

As if 2020 hasn’t been haunting enough we are now approaching Halloween.

From the decorations we have started to see around Cheshire and Manchester, it doesn’t appear that Covid-19 is stopping the season. So far this year we’ve pulled off Covid-safe birthday celebrations, weddings and zoom quizzes so can we pull off a Covid safe Halloween?

There was speculation that the government would ban the traditional trick or treat in an attempt to slow down the spread of the virus. However, Boris Johnson’s spokesperson has suggested it can be permitted in some parts of England under the current Covid-19 rules and depending what Tier you live in.

At present, Cheshire and Manchester are mixed in Tier 3 and Tier 2 which means residents are on high alert. Residents are therefore not currently permitted to socialise with anyone from outside their household. It may be that trick or treaters still plan on venturing out to show off their costumes and collect sweets. We’ve seen recommendations that if houses are welcoming trick or treaters, that they set up a station outside their homes with individually bagged treats for children to help themselves to to avoid human contact.

Some may think that Halloween is ‘just another money making day’ but it can be a great opportunity to build bridges and work together to make sure that your child makes some wonderful (and scary!) memories of both parents working together, whether that be directly, or by organising things to ensure that the child feels as little conflict as possible.

For those celebrating at home, there is always pumpkin carving and Halloween movies.
